House Of Pain est un des rares groupes de rap américain de Blancs à avoir cartonné. Erik Schrody, dit Everlast, découvre le hip hop, alors qu'il est au lycée et lui voue une vraie passion. Il rencontre Ice T, déjà maître en la matière à qui il s'adjoint pour faire partie de Ice T's Rhyme Syndicate. Cette association lui permet de se faire connaître. La sortie de son premier album ne tarde pas, Forever Everlast, paraît en 1990. Everlast forme alors House Of Pain en compagnie de Danny Boy et DJ Lethal. Le trio signe sur le label Tommy Boy Records et sort son premier album, éponyme, dans la foulée, co-produit, s'il vous plaît par DJ Muggs. L'énorme tube"Jump Around", l'hymne qui fait danser le public de Wycleef Jean, n'est pas à créditer au chanteur des Fugees, mais à Everlast. En 92, ce petit groupe d'américano-irlandais révolutionne le rap west coast en lui imposant son hip-hop à la sauce blanche, façon celtic-attitude. Jump Around fait partie de ce premier opus, un titre qui a connu un succès retentissant tout autour de la planète. Fort de cette notoriété, House Of Pain part ensuite en tournée à travers les Etats-Unis et récolte quelques soucis avec la justice, pour port d'arme illégal. Il faut donc attendre un an pour que les trois lascars se remettent au travail et sortent leur deuxième galette Same As It Ever Was, en 94. DJ Muggs est toujours à la production et le résultat s'en fait ressentir: encore un carton! House Of Pain sortira un troisième album en 96 Truth Crushed To Earth Shall Rise Again.
